Blackthorn

The blackthorn is out in the hedgerows. I wrote a post about it this time last year.

It looks almost like snow.

I'm admiring it against the deep blue sky, looking all washed clean between the April showers.

I took these photos on my phone while I was walking Rolo down by the river today, no post editing, the sky really was this blue. The air was cool and everything smelled fresh after the rain, a lovely Spring moment.

The explosion of the bare, thorny branches into a froth of beautiful white blooms each year is such a celebration of Spring, it is a real joy of April in my corner of the world. And all for free.

  1. I too have noticed how thick the blackthorn is this year, it almost looks like cherry blossom! You have captured its beauty perfectly. Jane x

  6. What beautiful pictures of these white blooms. The contrast of the blue sky really makes them special. I saw many of the pink trees on Easter that look similar to this.

  8. Very pretty - I've noticed loads of blackthorn blossom in the lanes when I've been out and about - just need to remember where so I can return for sloes in the autumn :)

  12. Stunning. And a lovely colour combination too (speaking as a nutty Sheffield Wednesday fan in the throes of end of season fanaticism).
